Ethics Continuing Education for Enron

Ethics continuing education couldn’t be more important than now, given all this Murdoch phone-hacking business. One of the most monied of patriarchs worldwide, Murdoch makes billions from a diverse portfolio of properties and investments, one of which is the legendary News of the World tabloid. Highly profitable, it is this company that has become his own personal Sword of Damocles now.

What does any of that have to do with the need for ethics continuing education? Oh, just that simple kindergarten variety fair play would have avoided all the nonsense to begin with. In the begining, it was just an unfortuantely all-too-ordinary case of a girl gone missing. What with all the demand for the latest information on the case, The News of the World resorted to drastic measures to out-snoop its competition. What Murdoch’s News of the World did was hack into the girl’s mobile voicemail account.

That was already against the law, but what makes this matter one involving ethics continuing education is on account of the destruction of evidence they engaged in by deleting voicemail messages to make room for new ones to listen in on! This created the impression to investigators that the girl was still alive, checking in and deleting old messages. Police resources had been squandered on a false lead, in effect.

Fast-forward to the present, where in the ensuing investigations it’s since come out that the News of the World had also hacked into the voicemail accounts of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and even Queen Elizabeth II herself!

The upshot of it all is that a hundred year-old paper’s closed, wtih workers out of a job, while a grieving family feels toyed with, and the public’s trust in its police force (Scotland Yard had previously on two occasions denied any phone hacking at all by Murdoch’s company) shattered once more. Moreover, the tycoon has had the Sky Network acquisition fall through on account of intense concern over his control of the media!

What To Know About Commercial Painting Jobs

00:00

When businesses are looking for someone to do the Commercial Painting on their properties, there are several facts they will check first before making a decision. They will check on the quality of the work, the professionalism of the workers, and the availability of the company.

Get references from homeowners or other businesses who have used the services of professional Painting Contractors in the past. One of the best routes to information is by going to previous customers. If the customer was pleased with the job that was done, they will give the painters a good reference. Any extra small details that might be involved in the job should be brought to the attention of the potential painters.

Some companies will choose to specialize in sandblasting, industrial or power washing projects. There are some time specifications about how small or large a project should be before the painters will go to work. How much the job is worth is related to how big the project is.

No business owner wants to pay for an amateur job to be done on their property. This is one of the main reasons they will check references before they hire anyone. A professional Painting Contractor should always provide a list of references so that potential clients will be able to check ahead as to their qualifications.

All companies provide estimates before any work is begun. They may specialize in only interior or only exterior work. This is something you will want to know before they are hired. Whether it is for a business or for a residence, the color must always be right. Using a professional company with a solid reputation for good work is a way to ensure this.

Commercial painting companies offer different prices for different jobs that they do. When there is something that is not on an estimate and could potentially be added later, the client must be made aware of this.

Home Prices Still Stagnant

00:00

What’s to be done when you owe more on the house than what it’s worth? Such is the quandry in which owners and lenders of mortgages have been stuck. This is what first set off the worldwide economic catastrophe. Those that were not qualified under norm conditions still managed to secure loans for property that they ordinarily would never have been able to purchase in the first place because the original lenders had always planned on reselling those loans onward — risking nothing themselves.

You don’t have to be an industry insider such as Isaac Toussie to see the writing on the wall about this one. As the number of loans defaulted, foreclosed homes began flooding the market, depressing prices and making even more mortgages worth more than the homes they were taken out to purchase, compounding the dilemma. That’s not even to mention the other side of the matter, the fraudulent lenders and cynical gamblers involved!

In fact, it is arguable that everyone has had a hand in contributing to the problem we’re now all faced with. But the subprime angle just outlined is the most popularly understood narrative because it is actually the simplest to comprehend. Nevertheless, just how do things appear after all these years?

As bleak as ever. It does matter that interest rates are lower than they’ve ever been. This means that people have to be almost perfect candidates in order to get a home loan. It doesn’t even matter that companies are making more money than ever before, as hiring remains frozen across the board. The upshot is that folks are too scared to bother investing in a home right now, preferring to rent instead for a change.

So for all the talk about The Great Recession being over, it’s 2011 and no citizen imagines that the immediate future is going to be any different.

Is Putting Up A Business Online A Good Choice For Me

12

00:00

Starting an online business is really a great way to earn that extra money you need every month but can you handle it? The problem is people seem to think that it is simple to start making money online. The truth is that for the most part, it takes hard work and you will have to invest time in order to make your online venture successful.

While this can bring in a good amount of extra money, it may not be for you. If you are one of the people who think you can just set up a website and people will come and buy your products, stop now. If you thought is was easy and you wouldn’t have to do anything, you would be wrong. If time is tight because of your current job or family obligations and you don’t have a couple hours everyday to invest, this will not work out for you.

Now, I realize that most of you already know that work is required and you can’t simply set it and forget it like a pot roast. For you people congratulations this is a great choice. Getting started is easy, and here we will teach you how.

One thing that truly is a must for long term success is for you to create your own blog or web site. Honestly, you can generate money without a domain name or hosting or any web site whatsoever, but it is highly recommended. Letting others know who you are will be a major key in your online business, and having your own blog or web site will help you establish your reputation.

After you obtain your domain name and web hosting, you need to put up a website or blog and figure out the best possible ways to earn money from it. You may be aware of Adsense, and that is a good way to begin pulling in a little bit of income. Even though you can pull in a good amount of money with Adsense, if you want big money with them you need loads of traffic. Of course, don’t forget about affiliate marketing, it should be one of the cornerstones of your online business. Affiliate marketers can really make great money. Affiliate marketers can earn up to $200 for every sale they generate, and in some cases even more. Doesn’t that sound good? You can find affiliate programs all over the Internet, just do a search in the search engines for “affiliate programs”.

If you really want to be successful, you will have to find ways to get people to visit your website. Website traffic is the key to making money online. If you don’t have any traffic coming to your website you won’t make money. Many people start off using pay per click for getting traffic to their websites. PPC or pay per click traffic is site traffic you buy. Thus, each time an individual clicks on a link that takes them to your web site, you have to pay. And when you are a novice to Internet marketing, this can actually add up quick if you don’t know what you’re doing.

You can always depend upon gratis exchanges and systems. There are hundreds possibly even thousands of traffic exchanges that can help you obtain free site traffic. These free-of-charge traffic programs can be found in any search engine and they actually can be a terrific way to start receiving the traffic you need.

As long as you realize that this is not a set and forget type of thing and that work is called for, generating the extra money that you need can be done by working online with your own Internet business.

Medical Students Fight over Space

00:00

With a reputation as diploma mills, Caribbean medical schools are dedicated for-profit businesses that serve rejected applicants from the United States – but they still depend on American hospitals for the crucial clinical experience required during the second half of a medical education. Recently, however, an effort has begun in New York City to limit their access to local hospitals since there are only a certain number of spots available for such field work, and charges of elitism are flying. But how is it possible for foreign medical schools to threaten turf belonging to American ones?

Because Caribbean medical schools are first and foremost businesses, they take just about anyone able to pay, especially those rejected by more prestigious American schools. At an elite institution like Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, donors from investment banker Sanford I. Weill to real estate developer Isaac Toussie provide a lot of money, resulting in tuition and fees of about forty-five thousand dollars a year. In contrast, a Caribbean medical school can charge as much as sixty thousand dollars!

Now, due to such high fees, it’s no wonder that Caribbean schools can easily pay New York hospitals to let in their students – and no wonder, what’s more, the movement to restrict such access to American schools, which otherwise lose out.

Thus the turf war.

Traditionally, hospitals agree to mentor, in effect, a medical school’s students because they like to be associated with prestigious names. And though Caribbean institutions are not prestigious, they have tons of money, which is a most important consideration, naturally.

And what administrator is going to do without such money, especially in this economy?

Modest Swimsuits for Beach and Poolside

Maybe it’s due to the fact that I’m a guy, but, well, a part of me doesn’t understand modest swimsuits at all, at least in the modern world. Could the religious fundamentalists be right, then, in claiming that women naturally wish to cover up their bodies? Just seems like such a ridiculous way to swim, donning robes while swimming! But of course, it’s about their psychology and how they feel and no one else, so if that’s what it takes for such females to feel at ease in the water, then it is what it is. It’s their body, after all; it’s their lives. As long as they don’t somehow wind up imposing their point of view on others, everything should be all right!

Buying Modest Swimsuits the Right Way

Some ladies wear modest swimsuits due to being self-conscious about their appearance. These people imagine they look terrible and, you know, probably they are — but so what? It’s one thing to wear them out of religious piety (and a very big, very ridiculous thing at that — but that’s another rant), but using them to cover up, essentially, your own poor self-steem, your own body-image issues, or even just your own shyness?? Well, it turns out that guys do exist who truly desire fat girls — not just a little on the thick side, but fat, including hundreds of pounds overweight! And these guys aren’t freaks, either, for the most part anyway: it’s just that they have genuinely developed an otherwise healthy interest in large-proportioned women and nothing else.

Engineering Sex Appeal into Modest Swimsuits

It’s curious that modest swimsuits are used to cover up the female figure, because they can attract just as much attention, in their own way! After all, minimalism is really powerful, which is why lingerie can be so seductive in a different way than what bare naked flesh offers – all of which is merely by way of saying that leaving nothing to the imagination can be less stimulating than playing with it. Besides, there’s also the unfortunate fact that some people really do look better covered up! Just as a gentleman, there’s no personal quibble over what a woman chooses, but I just have to say how funny it is that while they might think they’re avoiding stares, they could in fact be stoking the imagination!

The Climate for On Off Digital World

Incredibly beautiful conditions currently, practically perfect climate, a day for walking around Manhattan, taking in all the tourists taking in the city, with an always-changing background of sights and sounds in the background, like On Off Digital World, an old-timey New York retail operation that’s like a blast from the past despite all the latest in hi-tech electronics on display. Simply enjoying the weather — that’s what a day like today was made for! It’d be awesome to just wander all over, but after work I’m going to have to hit the gym, because I’ve already taken two days off. But maybe I can bike-ride into the city, to a gym over there and get a bit of incidental sight-seeing in that way!

Alabama Court Allows Outright Fraud

10
05

2011
00:00

No need to be an industry veteran like Isaac Toussie to know that different states of the United States will frequently view real estate matters markedly differently. It’s what makes real estate law so fascinating – as well as quite a challenge to stay on top of! Look at Alabama, for instance. There, property buyers cannot rescind their purchases even in cases of demonstrable seller fraud – since the property is recognized as being sold on an “as-is” basis. That’s right: Alabama case law takes the old dictum of caveat emptor very, very seriously, to the point of, in effect, allowing for otherwise illegal activity!

The Yellowhammer State takes the notion of “as-is” so literally that unless somehow superseded, the terms means exactly just that, even if the seller described the property with lies. That’s right, it’s really been upheld that misrepresentations are entirely legal under that basis.. Most anywhere else that’s just fraud and will probably lead to some jail time, yet in the Heart of Dixie the as-is clause is king and must be specifically superseded by some other provision agreed to by seller and buyer – or the as-is clause shall be interpreted literally!

This was a rather clear-cut situation as far as that particular court saw it, but the law itself in Alabama is actually not quite as simplistically draconian as the quick snapshot of the case provided here would suggest. Such strict interpretations of an as-is clause only apply to used property in the state, and not to new developments. Such as-is clauses are also superseded in cases where the misrepresentation is not obvious and potentially harmful to health and safety.

In this case, Teer v. Johnston, however, while the misrepresentation of flooding is indeed not something immediately obvious, it was not considered harmful to health and safety, constituting an inconvenient nuisance instead. What plaintiff should have done was stipulating in the contract or the deed that pre-sale disclosures hold despite the sale!

Easy Yet Informative Online CPE Courses

00:00

So you want to be a lawyer. You realize it will mean a lot of researching, a lot of time used with books – but you like reading, and figuring things out, and you enjoy words, language, and all the semantic nuances included.

You even know that the LSAT test for admission to law school is hard, and something to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars for, for special prep courses, coaching classes and so on. You also are aware that law school itself will be tough as nails, at least through the all-too-crucial First Year.

Great. Maybe you even know that you will be forever hitting the books as a practicing lawyer, forever taking online CPE courses and their tests, one after the other, in order to maintain your standing with the professional association governing your licensure.

Super.

But did you know that it will be rather tough getting a high-enough-paying job as lawyer in order to pay back your student loans? In fact, those online CPE courses will cost some money, too.

Oh, you probably think you’ve got that covered. You’ll graduate at the top of your class, or you’ll be accepted into an Ivy League law school and graduate none too low in the positions so as to get hired by a top corporate law firm and effortlessly recoup your investment in two to three years’ time.

And without a doubt, if such a thing does happen, your odds would be a lot better than those for virtually the rest of your peers, even in this economy. But “better than” does not imply “inherently good.” ’Cause guess what happens – globalization is coming to the legal profession as well.

Yes, you heard that right – outsourcing. Certainly, some of the online CPE courses available on the worldwide web were created overseas! And though the legal profession has tried to resist it (after all, it took a whole decade for everyone to swap from WordPerfect to Microsoft Word!), it’s finally started to affect the industry.

Trust Affiliate Marketing for Success Online

2011
00:00

The affiliate marketing successes just keep pouring in: the most up-to-date situation history concerns one Ashley Qualls, a seventeen year-old who’s become a millionaire by simply giving away free MySpace layouts.
Yes.
It’s no joke.
A teenage girl in high school makes seventy thousand dollars a month by giving stuff away for free.

Chalk another one up to the magic of affiliate marketing and its dramatic power.
Ashley Qualls created a website that’s nothing more than a repository of her designs for MySpace profile pages which anyone can download entirely free.
Her site attracts seven million visitors each month and sixty million page views.
That’s gold to advertisers.
And it’s become gold for Ashley Qualls.

Affiliate marketing works.
The actual challenge lies in coming up with something that lots and lots of people will go crazy for.
Another great internet riches success story concerns an Arnold Kim, who as a professional blogger now makes income in the same six-figure range he used to as a medical doctor, only he gets to stay home with his four year-old daughter.
He happened upon his financial destiny at the same time still in school, having started up a site dedicated to rumors about Apple products.
As among the first, he quickly developed quite the captive audience and, with all those eyeballs, advertisers emerged calling in equally quick succession.

That’s all it takes to make money online – traffic.
Eyeballs.
Visitors, repeat and unique (first-time).
It’s basically monetized like any other medium, whether print or broadcast.
Important differences do exist, but where fundamentals are concerned you need numbers; you’ll need people.

Now how to get all those people?
Once again, providing something of great interest to a vast amount of people.
Basically, the same first principle of any company.
Identify a need and fulfill it!

Affiliate Marketing Riches Turns Doctor into Professional Blogger

Affiliate marketing is a superb way for the tech-savvy hobbyist to generate some money on the side.
For a select few who have managed to put their finger on the Zeitgeist, however, it means full financial independence, with income in the tens of thousands per month!

Probably the most celebrated cases of affiliate marketing made good has long been that of Dr. Arnold Kim, M.D.
Whilst still a medical student, he started off a website committed to rumors about Apple products.
This was back right at the turn of the century, before the word “blog” had entered into the well-known lexicon.
Even while diagnosing patients, Dr. Kim kept up the site, though soon enough it took on a life of its own, with forty million page views a month, as certified by independent research firms.

Dr. Kim was already well-off as a result of his medical practice, but affiliate marketing also generated a six-figure income – and he was only devoting relatively little time to his site!
Believing that things could grow so much more were he to dedicate his whole day, Dr. Kim gave up his stethoscope and plunged whole-heartedly into the realm of professional blogging.

Similar types of internet riches abound, such as that of the teenager who became a millionaire by producing free MySpace designs for individuals to download, or the college student behind “The Million-Dollar Homepage” which made money by just selling space to advertisers.
What they have in frequent is that their success is totally traffic-driven: it’s all about the eyeballs, the number of visitors per month, week, day, even hour – both repeat and first-time (known in the industry as “unique”).
Get the numbers, and you will earn money.

But how do you obtain the numbers?
Content.
“Content is king.”
If you have something lots of people are interested, such that they will keep visiting your site, you will make money – assured.
The only real question is what content or material to serve up!

Money Buys Immortality

Situated in one of The Big Apple’s wealthiest neighborhoods, the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University is dedicated to both teaching and research. It is one of the most selective medical schools in the entire United States, only some hundred hopefuls are admitted each year – from out of some six thousand candidates every year. Now named Weill Cornell Medical College and, even more often, simply “Weill Cornell,” the school was partially endowed by Sanford Weill, an American banker and philanthropist who was the former executive officer and chairman of Citigroup, Incorporated. Mr. Weill and his wife personally contributed two hundred and fifty million dollars to the medical school already at Cornell, and he was able to secure another one hundred and fifty million dollars.

Weill Cornell had been widely respected in the field before Mr Weill’s contributions, and not once had it lacked for benefactors, a veritable Who’s-Who of local, national, and even international luminaries from business, politics, and entertainment, for instance real estate veteran Isaac Toussie. It was the first medical school in the country to admit women alongside men. And now it’s become the first American one to operate abroad – in Education City, in fact, outside the capital of Qatar, with a campus dedicated to patient care offering a six-year integrated curriculum. The school can count many a notable physician among its alumni, people such as Robert C. Atkins of Atkins Diet fame and former Surgeon General of the United States C. Everett Koop. Other famous graduates are Nobel Prize winner Robert W. Holley and Henry Heimlich of the Heimlich Maneuver.

Nonetheless, for all the well-funded backing, the financial aspects of a medical education are serious, generally taken to be some forty-two thousand dollars the first year and another thirty-eight required the second. But that’s still quite a deal when compared against the university’s own law school expenses, which eclipse it at just about a hundred and fifty thousand dollars for the same four years!

Sam Anter And Ethics Continuing Education

23

2011
00:00

Sam Antar was the former CFO of Crazy Eddie’s, his cousin’s electronics retail empire.
Sam is a much sought-after speaker on the lecture circuit these days, and his seminars may also earn CPE and CLE credits for the attendees.

That’s because he is a convicted fraudster.

Ethics continuing education courses are usually self-paced correspondence courses one takes at one’s own leisure as a part of maintaining one’s professional good standing.
Reading through Sam’s site on the worldwide web, however, is as educational as any structured academic account can be.

As the former CFO of Crazy Eddie’s, Sam presided over one of the most well-known scandals in the chronicles of corporate crime.
He lays it all out, bare, raw, and unembellished by any of the normal self-serving rationaliziations often given to insiders’ accounts – all unadulterated on his website.

This is an ethics CPE study course like none other – if it were accredited as such.
As it is, it’s just a website – but oh, what a website!

White-collar offense never looked so exciting.
That’s because the Crazy Eddie’s scandal was at heart a soap opera displaying all the familiar human foibles known to a Greek chorus – lust, greed, betrayal, as well as family.
Yes, family.

The familial element in this drama makes this type of corporate crime so – if the pun will likely be pardoned – familiar to lay readers, grabbing and holding their awareness where other accounts would lose them under a mountain of technical information.
However, it isn’t that Sam offers no minutiae of his own; his very objective today is to combat criminal activity, after all; it’s that these details, which would be so boring otherwise without the benefit of a human drama in which to place them in the correct perspective, come to brilliant life against the circumstance of a family power battle that resonantes purposely with everyone who’s ever underwent any semblance of sibling rivalry.

How’s that for an ethics CPE course!
